Staff Project Sapele & African Mahogany TV Stand

My neighbor Rita is like an aunt to me. She’s one of the kindest and most giving people I know, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it. A few months back, I was at her house helping her hang a picture frame and I noticed her old, cheap T.V. stand was falling apart. Not long after, I decided to surprise her by building her a new (and improved) entertainment center. I had a difficult time deciding what species of wood I wanted to use. One day I was tallying a new lumber shipment that included some 4/4 Sapele and African Mahogany. Both had beautiful figures so I knew these would be perfect for this project.

The project took me about a month and I was able to keep it a secret the entire time! On Easter Sunday, the new entertainment center was finally finished. That day, Rita was hard at work in her kitchen making dinner for her family. I asked her if she could take a quick break and come outside. Seeing her new entertainment center sitting in her driveway brought her to tears. It was the perfect Easter surprise and just goes to show that good things come to those who put others before themselves.
